New at Cambridge Press: A Clinician’s Guide to Cannabinoid Science A Clinician’s Guide to Cannabinoid Science

A New Book by Dr. Steven James, MD

The past four decades have witnessed two parallel paths of discovery and change in our understanding of cannabinoids.

The first is the discovery of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS, conserved by evolution in the development of vertebrates, regulates the homeostasis of the brain and numerous other body systems essential for health. The second path has been the acceptance by many parts of society of medical marijuana (also known as cannabis). Although little scientific literature describes the benefits and risks associated with medical marijuana, greater public acceptance and increased access has made cannabis the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States (US). Although permitted for medical and recreational use in a growing number of states, Cannabis, excluding hemp, remains a Schedule I substance under the Federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for any indication.

Clinicians are frequently asked by their patients about the use of medical marijuana. Patients demand (and deserve) advice from their doctor based on scientific facts. In “The Clinician’s Guide to Cannabinoid Science” information from the peer-reviewed scientific literature is summarized to assist the doctor and patient in making informed treatment decisions from confusing, and often conflicting, reports.

This book provides the scientific background to begin that conversation.

The first in a series of scientific publications published by Cambridge Press

Beautiful detailed illustrations by R. Freeland  Each illustration, with the guidance of Dr Steven James guide the clinitination through current research of Cannabis.
